The Fr. Michael J. McGivney Assembly was founded in 1998 and is composed of Sir Knights from the Parishes of Blessed Sacrament, Scottsdale, St. Patrick, Scottsdale and St. Joan of Arc, Phoenix, Arizona. The Assembly was named after the founder of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Michael J. McGivney, currently on his way to becoming a Saint.
The Faithful Navigator for 2011 - 2012 is John Nichols.
The Assembly meets the second Thursday of each month. The meetings are currently held at Blessed Sacrament.
Brothers, on Sunday morning (10/30/11) we had a wonderful Memorial Mass at Blessed Sacrament followed by a brunch in the Garden Court Restaurant at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort. Thanks to all who attended.
Thanks to Jack Crosson who put these events together and also to John Finical who helped Jack Crosson find the names of SKs at Blessed Sacrament who are deceased and helped arrange for 3 widows from Blessed Sacrament to attend these events. The plaque has 9 names of deceased SKs on it, most from Blessed Sacrament.
Jack and his wife and John and his wife joined us for these events.
Thanks also to our wives who attended: Kathy Cacini, Lauralee Gaudio, and Kaye Krohlow. Hopefully we didn't miss the names of anyone who attended.
I hope that next year we will have more SKs attending from our Councils at Blessed Sacrament, St Joan of Arc, and St Patrick's.
Vivat Jesus!
John Nichols FN, CCC

Funeral Information:Monday, October 24, 2011, 10:00 AM at St. Patrick'sSir Knights, please assemble at 9:30am in regalia. Please keep Joyce and the family in your prayers
Going in the hospital? Please call the Parish FIRST and let the Parish know. Need to receive the Sacrament of Anointing? Ask the Parish to have a priest anoint you with this great healing Sacrament BEFORE you go to the hospital! In addition let Admissions in the hospital or the Admissions folks in the Emergency Room know that you are Catholic and would like someone from the Parish to come and see you. This will help ensure that someone from the Parish will visit you and bring you Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist.
If you get the chance, give your Grand Knight a call or send him an email and let him know. Ditto for the Faithful Navigator of our Fourth Degree Assembly. Once the Council or the Assembly knows what is happening, we can send out a "Good of the Order” email and initiate a prayer chain for you or your loved one. In addition, if you like, we can ask our Brothers and the Ladies of the Knights to send you cards, emails, and visit you if you like.
Want to learn as easy way to let your friends and loved ones know what is going on if your hospital stay may be a while? Google “Caring Bridge!” This is a great web site where you can set up your own web site to let everyone know what is going on. “Caring Bridge” will lead you through the steps to set this up and you will be grateful you did. When John Nichols had open heart surgery, he set up a Caring Bridge site and had over 1,600 hits on his Caring Bridge site and received many heartfelt prayers and good wishes.
At our July 14, 2011 Assembly Meeting the Faithful Navigator, John Nichols, presented five new Sir Knights with their Certificates of Exemplification. Congratuations to Anthony Aruiemma, James Ginne, Lawrence Hatala, Webb Kozak and Ryan Wagner.

Please congratulate the 9 men who were exemplified into the Fourth Degree today, all future members of our Fr Michael J McGivney Assembly 2524. These include Anthony J Auriemma, Alex C. Chee, James J. Ginnie, Lawrence Hatala, Webb Kozak, Phillip G. Matson, Jose E. Torres, III, Ryan F. Wagner, and Bruce C. Wagner.
Thanks to the great team that did a superb job preparing and presenting an extraordinary Exemplification.
We will present the Exemplification certificates to these new Fourth Degree Sir Knights at our next Assembly meeting, Thursday, July 14th. It will begin at 6:30pm in the east end of the Social Hall at Blessed Sacrament. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

SKs in our Assembly have been quite busy this past month.
Healing Mass, St Daniel, the Prophet. This mass was concelebrated by Auxiliary Bishop, Edwardo Nevares and several priests from St Daniels. We had many SKs there, joining a total of 17 SKs, to form an Honor Guard for Bishop Nevares.
Veteran’s Day, St Patricks. The St Patrick’s parish has a special celebration for Veterans, co sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council. We had 7 SKs in regalia to present and retire the Colors!
Feast of the Immaculate Conception. On December 8th St Patrick’s Knights of Columbus led a Rosary after the 6pm mass. SKs in regalia opened this event with a procession accompanied by the St Patrick’s banner of the Blessed Mother, Ladies of the Knights with flowers to honor Mary, and with a box of prayer requests. Fr Eric Tellez, the Pastor, celebrated mass using our Assembly’s Vocation Chalice. Bob Julien, the Grand Knight of the St Patrick’s Council, wearing regalia, opened the ceremony and then SKs in regalia and Ladies of the Knights led the 5 decades of the Glorious Mysteries. Thanks to Laura Lee and Brother Nick Gaudio for all their efforts to make this event a success! Brother Gaudio took the Vocation Traveling Chalice home and he and Laura Lee will pray for vocations. What an honor to have this Chalice that has held the Precious Blood of Jesus in their home. I would appreciate it if other SKs and their families make plans to bring this Chalice to their home, display it prominently, and in turn pray for vocations!
Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. St Joan of Arc. On Sunday, December 12th, 8 SKs in regalia, many for our Assembly, turned out at 4:30am to form an Honor Guard leading the procession to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The church was packed with parishioners devoted to her. After conclusion of the rosary, these SKs led the procession out. Kudos to Drew Porro and the St Joan of Arc Council which sponsored this celebration! By the way, the Council and parishioners made 79 dozen tamales and they were delicious. Later in the day 5 SKs again formed an Honor Guard leading the procession opening the 12:30pm mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Once again the mass was packed. The SKs again led the concluding procession after mass.
In addition, on October 10, 2010 7 SKs from our Assembly participated in the magnificent Diocesan Rosary Sunday event at the Phoenix Convention Center. 5 took part in the regalia procession opening the celebration and 2 served as ushers! This was the 35th annual Rosary Sunday sponsored by the Arizona Knights of Columbus and on that day Mary was honored under her title "Mary Help of Christians. Each of us were deeply moved by the great love and devotion to Mary of the 6,000 participants!
All went well! We had 9 SKs in regalia! Gene Ast carried the American flag and Ron Cacini carried the Papal flag. Both were wearing white capes! As I recall Nick Gaudio and Drew Porro flanked the flags. We also had 4 SKs in the second rank, John Rodi, Bill Gladney, Dom Mancini, and Tom Galenziewski. We posted the Colors and led everyone in a Pledge of Allegiance. During the Pledge and the following "America the Beautiful" we all came to "Present Sword."
Deacon Fred was the celebrant. Dan McCabe recited the poem "Flanders Fields" and led the procession with the cross. John Seliga read a very moving poem. The Blessed Bakers made a lot of cookies and we received many compliments! The crowd was smaller than last year but I believe that everyone was deeply moved by the ceremony. We also retired the Colors! Someone noted that I had not forgotten how to march! A number of SKs came in civilian clothes, including Art Gomez, who is recovering from rotator cuff surgery, John Finical, and Fred DeVera among others. The attendees stayed quite a while after the ceremony.
John Van Maynen told me a very moving account of his involvement as a young sailor in WW2. He participated in the invasion of North Africa, Salerno, Sicily, Anzio, and France. He served on a landing craft and saw many men die in these invasions. Someone asked me how old John is. He must be close to or over 90! John is so blessed to have survived these landings. Many landing craft were destroyed by heavy German fire!

SK Mike McCauley
Mike, exemplified in June as a Sir Knight, is originally from the Midwest, born in Michigan, and grew up in Ohio. He graduated from the University of Akron (BSIE) and Florida State(MBA Logistics). He has been married for 24 years to his wonderful bride, Cheryl, who is a nurse. They have three children, Nicole(21), Michael(19) and Kirsten(9).
He is currently the Regional VP Merchandising (Phoenix Region) for CarMax (the largest retailer of vehicles in the USA). Prior to CarMax he worked for Darden/General Mills Restaurants as a Seafood Buyer sourcing over 30 million pounds of seafood annually from SE Asia, South America and Alaska(aka 'The Deadliest Catch') and for Lockheed Martin as a Logistics Supervisor avoiding SCUD missiles in Kuwait during the first Gulf War. I look forward to opportunity to share my experiences in the shrimp farms of Thailand, negotiating lobster pricing in the jungle of Brazil, reconditioning F16's in the desert of U.A.E. and finally how to know if you are getting a 'deal' buying/selling your next vehicle.
He joined St Patrick's in 2008 (after relocating to Phoenix), became a Knight in 2010 and a Sir Knight in June. His favorite colors: Red, White and Blue. No wonder he became a Fourth Degree Knight! His hobbies...Pop Warner Cheerleading (by 9 yr old association!), travel (have visited 5 continents), and working for Habitat for Humanity. One of the highlights since joining the St Patrick's Council has been the Pancake Breakfasts I have been a part of...my wife claims I have spent more time in the kitchen with the Knights, than I have with her over the past 24 years!!
For the good of the order, please pray for Cheryl's mother who is critically ill.
